Sign Heaven

A visit to the Lakeland Motor Museum who appear to have a cornucopia of old signs, alongside their bikes and motors. Some of the iconic brands are here.  But the one that caught my attention was the Fry's Five Boys Chocolate, each piece with a boy's different expression, from joy to anguish. Produced from 1902-1976 it also appeared in wall dispensing machines on Railway Station, often the only thing available if you were hungry.  Sometimes you stopped hungry if the machine jammed.  It was the sort of chocolate bar always remembered, unique.

An entry for the Sign, Signs meme

I'm familiar with Fry's Cocoa, but not the chocolate.
This looks a busy place - you could walk around it 3 times and still find something you missed!

Looks like the type of museum where one could spend a long time looking if one wanted to see everything, including a mother lode of signs.

I remember the Fry's chocolate bars, but don't know about Five Boys! Great collection of signs in one place!

Great signs but Fry's Five Boys caught my attention immediately. What a shame they're not still available but I suppose they'd by Fry's Five Old Men by now;-)

Joy I am absolutely blown away by your post. I just finished my second book in the 'Peculiar Crimes" British mystery series -- in it the detective Bryant comments to his partner that his matches are 'Bryant and May' which are their names. It was just an aside that he says while he's thinking out loud and smoking -- but as these books seem very authentic in their London background information, the thought crossed my mind to wonder if there really was such a brand. Now I know -- thank you!

Your picture is wonderful for this meme (even if I hadn't spotted that particular sign).! I'll come back and check out more of your blog later -- as you may guess I am an Anglophile!

That's a lovely collection of old signs, modern signs are just information, they don't have character like these do!
